Dating in SweatpantsOnline dating has opened up a whole world of possibilities to those who are looking for a relationship of any kind. One major advantage of online dating is that it allows you a certain level of control — over who you talk to, when you talk, what you reveal and more. Busy professionals, single parents, religious people and others from a wide range of backgrounds and beliefs can now connect to others like themselves through the online dating world.

Back in Time

In the days before the Internet, people looking for a relationship had to put in a significant amount of time and effort. From clothing choices, to location, to finding a babysitter, to spending money on traveling, drinks, dinners and cover charges, ultimately the ends may not have justified the means.

Even then, after all was said and done, there was still the social scene to conqueror. While some people have no problem socializing, talking to strangers and making friends, for others, the thought of putting themselves out there is the emotional equivalent of jumping from a plane without a parachute. Some otherwise talented, intelligent and beautiful people are simply not equipped to face the social challenges of the singles scene. Others may not want to. Online dating has changed all of that. No more competition. No more awkward pauses. No more unwanted advances.

The New World

One major advantage of online dating is the dress code. Gone are the days of buying clothes you wouldn’t otherwise be caught dead in, for the sole purpose of attracting people in a bar or restaurant or party where everyone has done the same thing, but is pretending not to. Online dating allows people to meet and even become romantically involved without ever having to get out of your sweatpants and pajama bottoms. Online dating doesn’t require you to put on make-up, shower or even lose any weight.

People who meet online and want to date can now do so in relative comfort without having to worry about looking perfect. Online dating is more about getting to know someone on a level that is much deeper than physical attraction. For many, this is the biggest advantage of all.

In the offline, social dating world, inevitably, there are those who cannot compete with the sex and allure that others exude — not necessarily because of their looks, but because they are simply not that kind of person. Online dating allows people of all personality types to be appreciated for who they are and without all the stiff competition of the offline social scene, these people can have the opportunity to meet others like themselves who are tired of the competition and just don’t feel like dressing up anymore for another disappointing encounter. With online dating, you can be yourself, sweatpants and all, and find someone who loves you for it — or in spite of it.
